Welcome

On behalf of our students, faculty, and trustees – Welcome to our new website! Mark Carlson

In September 2008 The Children’s Center for Communication (CCC) incorporated to help better define our services to children, families, and the community.   This organizational expansion helps us distinguish the broad array of services and supports that we offer our children.

Our unique school was founded in 1876 and has gone through many changes during those one hundred and thirty plus years.  Beverly School for the Deaf (BSD) has always educated deaf children and began accepting hearing students with developmental and language delays during the 1970’s (formerly known as the ADAPT program). Throughout the century we have seen the face of education evolve. The incorporation of The Children’s Center for Communication shapes our changing identity in an increasingly technological and research-based world.

CCC has formally grown into its own program and educates a diverse population of children with autism and related disorders.  CCC’s highly skilled faculty work hard to individualize an approach to meet each child’s learning style and development needs.  Our students may come to us with a diagnosis of Autism, Cerebral Palsy, MR, Down Syndrome, or other learning or communication disabilities - but they are seen as individual learners each with their own strengths and contributions.

BSD continues to remain a strong academic and language-rich program - open to all children, from preschool to high school, with any degree of hearing loss.  Our students on campus and in the community are diverse and have individual needs.  These are supported by various approaches and accommodations including: ASL, oral language, cochlear implants, FM systems, hearing aids, lip-reading, and additional systems, which assist with learning and development.  We continue to focus on developing Deaf/HH children to become well rounded academically, socially, vocationally, and throughout all aspects of their communication.

CCC/BSD parents entrust us with their child’s development during the most important period of their lives.  We hold this responsibility with great humility and consequence knowing that what happens today impacts their child for a lifetime.  We are all proud to say that we are a part of something special both on our Beverly campus and throughout the North Shore.

Through the hard work of our faculty, the vision of our trustees, the relentless nurturing from families, and your generous support, our students will grow to become independent adults and effective communicators.     We all believe CCC/BSD is the best and least restrictive educational setting for all children with a hearing loss or unique communication need.

You will see as you explore our new website that CCC and BSD are two separate and distinct programs.   You will be able to find the most up to date information on our site and we welcome your feedback as we continue to improve our external communication to our school community.  Thank you for visiting CCC/BSD.  We hope you will visit often to learn about the new and exciting initiatives our campus has to offer.
